Fleet Launches AI Governance to Give IT, Security Teams Control of AI Tools on Every Device

New capabilities provide visibility into AI agents, tools, skills and MCP servers across macOS, Windows and Linux

Fleet will explore the future of AI-era device management with leaders from Pinterest, Red Hat, Sonos, SandboxAQ and more at its first virtual summit on Nov. 10

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Fleet Device Management, the AI device management platform for top IT and security teams, today announced new AI governance capabilities designed to give organizations visibility and control over the rapidly growing number of AI tools running across employee devices.

Shadow IT was largely a SaaS problem, but now, shadow AI is an endpoint problem. Employees can install coding agents, desktop assistants, browser extensions, MCP servers, local models, plugins and packages on their own, often faster than IT and security teams can track them. As those tools spread beyond developers and across the workforce, organizations need to understand what AI is running, who is using it, what it can access and what corporate data employees are sharing with it.

Fleet’s new AI governance capabilities extend the device-level visibility organizations already used to manage software, vulnerabilities, browser extensions and developer tools to the growing AI ecosystem.

Visibility and Governance for AI Across Every Device

Fleet brings AI governance into the same platform IT and security teams already use to manage software, plugins, extensions, developer tools and vulnerabilities, eliminating the need for another standalone AI security tool. New and upcoming capabilities include:

  • AI inventory: See AI tools, agents, skills, plugins and MCP servers installed across macOS, Windows and Linux in one view, with filtering by publisher, version and device.
  • AI usage and spend: Track token usage by tool, user and device to understand how AI is being used, where spend is going and which tools are delivering value.
  • AI session context: See what users send to AI tools and how those tools respond, helping security and compliance teams identify when corporate data, customer information or source code is being shared.
  • Integrated governance: Use Fleet’s existing policies, reports and remediation workflows to identify unmanaged AI tools and determine which agents and applications should remain in the environment.
  • Auditable controls: Manage governance decisions through infrastructure as code (IaC) and GitOps workflows, making changes reviewable, auditable and reversible across operating systems.
  • Open-source transparency: See exactly what data Fleet collects and how, using the same open-source agent already running across the device fleet.

AI inventory and visibility are included in Fleet Free, reflecting Fleet’s view that AI governance is a fundamental requirement of modern device management.

“Every company we talk to has the same problem. They have dozens of AI agents running on employees’ laptops and no clear picture of what’s there, who’s using it or what data is moving through it,” said Mike McNeil, CEO and co-founder of Fleet. “In the process of trying to answer those questions, companies are creating tool sprawl. Shadow AI shouldn’t require another point solution. You should govern your AI agents in the same place you govern your plugins, extensions, software and developer tools. That work starts on the device, and that’s where Fleet already runs.”

“Endpoints are where AI risk actually shows up,” said Viktor Filipsson, Senior IT System Engineer, Sonos. “You can’t govern what you can’t see. You need to know which AI tools and packages are running on your devices, what people are feeding them and whether you can trust them. Device visibility plus risk intelligence is how you get there.”
