Top Rack Technology Announces Online BOM Design Tool for Faster Solar Racking Project Planning

Web-based workflow connects project inputs, building and equipment setup, array layout, engineering output and bill-of-materials generation in one place

MOORESTOWN, NJ, UNITED STATES, August 18, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Moorestown, N.J. Top Rack Technology (TRT), a provider of solar mounting and racking solutions, today announced the availability of its online BOM Design Tool, a web-based platform designed to help solar professionals move from project setup to an organized bill of materials with a more streamlined digital workflow.
The tool guides users through five connected stages — Project, Building, Equipment, Layout and BOM — allowing key site, structural and system information to be entered once and carried through the design process. The interface is intended to reduce repetitive manual work while giving users a clearer view of the racking configuration and the components associated with the selected layout.
A connected workflow for solar racking design
• Project setup with address, design-standard and site/load inputs
• Building and equipment configuration within the same project
• Visual module and racking layout with component-level symbols
• Engineering output for rail-span, overhang and load verification
• Bill-of-materials generation based on the completed system design

At the Project stage, users can enter project and location information and organize design assumptions such as ASCE standard, risk category, soil class, elevation, wind speed and snow-load information. The map-based view helps connect the digital project record to the actual site location, while later workflow stages bring building geometry, equipment selection and array layout into the same design sequence.

For installers, designers and distributors, the visual Layout stage provides an immediate way to review panel placement, rail orientation and key system components before moving to the BOM. For Top Rack Technology products, the interface can display the selected racking system together with rails, bases, clamps, splices and other associated parts, helping users connect the drawing to the material list.
The generated project output also consolidates design assumptions and layout information into a report-style format. In the example shown, the engineering output includes rail-span, overhang and load verification information for defined roof zones. Project-specific code requirements, professional-engineering review and stamped documentation should still be followed where required by the applicable jurisdiction or project scope.

“The goal of the online BOM Design Tool is to make racking design information easier to organize, visualize and carry through to material planning.” –Top Rack Technology

Supporting a more efficient preconstruction workflow
By bringing project inputs, equipment choices, layout decisions and BOM preparation into one online environment, TRT’s design tool is positioned to help teams standardize preconstruction work and reduce disconnects between the design desk, purchasing and the installation crew. The platform also creates a consistent path for reviewing a project before materials are ordered.
Top Rack Technology plans to continue developing digital tools that complement its solar racking systems and support customers from early-stage project planning through installation preparation.
