Phillips Medisize to Showcase Advances in Inhalation and Dry Powder Inhaler Innovations at Respiratory Drug Delivery (RDD) 2026

Phillips Medisize, a Molex company and a leader in the design, engineering and manufacturing of pharmaceutical drug delivery, in vitro diagnostic and medtech devices, today announced it will present scientific research at the Respiratory Drug Delivery (RDD) 2026 Conference, taking place May 10–14, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona.

At RDD 2026, Phillips Medisize will deliver presentations and a technical workshop focused on dry powder inhaler (DPI) platform products, patient-centric product development and formulation – device integration strategies. These presentations address key challenges in inhaled therapy development, including patient adherence, device usability and real-world clinical performance.

“Inhaled drug delivery development increasingly requires early alignment between formulation science, device engineering and real-world patient use,” said Sandy Munro, Chief Inhalation Scientist, Phillips Medisize. “Our presentations at RDD 2026 highlight approaches that integrate human factors engineering, device technologies and clinically relevant critical quality attributes. This unified development strategy helps to reduce development risk, improve therapeutic outcomes and support commercial viability.

Phillips Medisize RDD 2026 Presentations:

  • Design for the Future: Navigating the Pathway to Successful Complex Electromechanical Devices; Presenter: Andreas M. Meliniotis, Phillips Medisize

This podium presentation examines technical, regulatory and commercial considerations in the development of advanced inhalation devices. It outlines how technologies such as micro-sensors, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) and advanced aerosolization methods can potentially be applied to improve patient outcomes. The session also addresses strategies for aligning stakeholder requirements and supporting commercial viability.

  • Development of a Connectivity Module for an Open-Inhale-Close (OIC) Device that is Both Patient-Centric and Non-Intrusive to Dry Powder Delivery; Presenter: Murat Ali, Phillips Medisize

This poster focuses on the OIC DPI platform product and evaluates the impact of an optional connectivity module on device performance. For this concept module, the work examines how connectivity can potentially support dose tracking, inhalation technique feedback and patient training while preserving a non-intrusive user experience and have minimal impact on the device airflow resistance. The session highlights how device design, human factors engineering and digital features can improve adherence and real-world performance.

  • Patient-Centric Product Development: Maximizing the Chances of Success in the Clinic and Beyond; Presenters: Daniel Lock and Nicola Wilkie, Phillips Medisize

This workshop explores the relationship between formulation characteristics, device mechanics and patient variability. It focuses on the role of clinically relevant critical quality attributes (CQAs) in reducing development risk and avoiding late-stage failures. The session also addresses strategies for designing inhaled therapies that meet the needs of diverse patient populations.

Phillips Medisize’s participation at RDD 2026 reflects its continued investment in drug delivery systems, dry powder inhaler development and patient-centric design approaches. The company collaborates with pharmaceutical customers to develop combination inhalation products that integrate device engineering, formulation science and scaled global device manufacturing capabilities.
