Hallweld Delivers SA Height Safety Systems Upgrade for Fabrik
ADELAIDE, South Australia, 3 May 2026 — Hallweld Safety has completed a custom height safety systems upgrade for Fabrik’s Blanket Building in Lobethal, South Australia, delivering safer rooftop access, improved fall protection and a more controlled maintenance environment across the building’s complex sawtooth roof.
The project was undertaken to support the installation and ongoing management of a new rooftop solar system while addressing existing access and fall-protection risks. Before the upgrade, maintenance staff and contractors faced limited safe roof access, no permanent fall protection, uncontrolled movement across roof areas and fragile roofing hazards, including sawtooth glazing that was not fall-rated.
Hallweld Safety designed and installed a fully engineered roof access system to improve safety, support compliance and create clear access pathways for personnel working at height.
The solution included roof access ladders, transition points, aluminium modular roof walkways, handrail protection, static line systems and certified roof anchor points. Together, these components created designated movement routes across all four sawtooth roof sections while supporting safer access for inspections, maintenance and contractor work.
The height safety systems upgrade was designed to align with key Australian Standards, including AS/NZS 1657, AS/NZS 1891 and AS/NZS 5532, as well as relevant Work Health & Safety requirements for working at heights.
A Hallweld Safety spokesperson said the Fabrik project highlighted the importance of designing height safety systems around the real conditions of each building.
“Every roof presents its own risks, especially where maintenance teams need to access plant, services or solar infrastructure. For the Fabrik Blanket Building, the priority was to create a safer, more controlled system that allowed personnel to move across the roof with confidence while supporting long-term compliance.”
The project also demonstrates Hallweld Safety’s broader capability in delivering height safety systems South Australia businesses can rely on for industrial, commercial and facility maintenance environments.
With many older buildings now being upgraded for solar, plant access and routine rooftop maintenance, compliant roof access systems are becoming a critical part of responsible facility management. Hallweld Safety’s work at the Fabrik Blanket Building shows how a tailored system can reduce risk, improve access and help building owners meet their duty of care.
